Tentative face

Tentative Face is an installation proposal developed for the We Are Renovating! competition, organised by the World Architecture Festival in collaboration with the Museum of Architecture and Design of Slovenia (MAO). The competition called for proposals that provoke new discussions around the future of Fužine Castle in Ljubljana, a historic structure that currently houses MAO and hosts a range of cultural activities.

Tentative Face is composed of a minimal set of elements: a series of strings suspended from the existing walls and a lightweight tarpaulin roof. Together, these components form a temporary surface within the courtyard, capable of transformation through a central hoisting mechanism. In its default state, the installation rests close to the ground, dividing the courtyard into three distinct zones while introducing alternative routes of circulation. When a larger, continuous space is required, the surface can be lifted, transforming the courtyard into a single, open event space. This simple yet dynamic transformation reveals the latent potential within a seemingly fixed historical setting. By making change visible, the project invites visitors to reconsider the courtyard as a space that can be reconfigured over time, rather than one defined by permanence. Tentative Face was awarded 2nd Prize and was subsequently exhibited at MAO, where PAN- PROJECTS participated as both exhibitor and lecturer.
